Russell Music Studio
Take Virtual Piano, Theory or Composition Lessons
Russell Music Studio Goal: My main concern is making sure the student is having fun while learning! I cater my lessons around the individual student, because I think that students learn best doing something they love. While every student will learn the basics, I focus in on the student's specific interest and try to address why they started lessons.
I teach all ages, from Pre-K to Adult!

What is the first online lesson like?
I spend the first lesson just getting to know the student. I find out their skill level, background, and what type of music they're interested in. It's very relaxed and casual. For piano lessons, I also make it a goal for the student to leave their first lesson having learned to play at least 1 song! Don't worry about getting any materials before the first lesson, I will email everything to you before. Just make sure you have your piano or keyboard, computer or tablet, and internet connection. What do you teach? We start with the basics, but where we go from there is up to the student. If your goal is to learn to play piano in a specific style, we'll work on that. If you want to work on composing we can do that. Or if you want to learn the newest Taylor Swift song, we can do that too! I'm also available to teach music theory for students in AP theory classes or undergraduate music majors. Who do you teach? All ages! I've taught kids from age 3 to adults age 60. I'm open to teaching any student who wants to learn. The only requirement is access to a keyboard or piano. How do online lessons work? I teach through Zoom. During the first lesson we will talk about setting up your computer or tablet for a piano lesson to properly view your piano or keyboard. For composition and theory lessons, I will share my screen to go over exercises and teach concepts. Parents and students will get emails about homework or any materials they will need. What are the assignments like? For my young students, I normally use the Faber Piano Adventures books during lessons. Most assignments will come from that book. For my older students, it just depends on their age, skill level, and focus. All the books I select are found in most music stores or available to order off Amazon. Occasionally I will give other materials, but that will be emailed as a PDF to print before the lesson. Can a parent sit in on the private lesson? Of course! I even recommend it for the first lesson. I want the parents to fully understand how the lessons are structured and how homework is assigned so they can best help their child succeed. |
Why Russell Music Studio?
There are lots of places to take virtual music lessons. The cost might be lower, but you're sacrificing the quality of the lesson and expertise of the teacher. Many studios with lots of teachers stick to the same lesson plan for each student, and don't spend the time to get to know each and every student. When I'm not teaching, I'm rewriting lesson plans, making custom worksheets, finding songs that I think a student might like, etc. I give each and every student the individual attention they deserve so they can succeed. |

About MeI am a composer, pianist, and vocalist originally from Austin, Texas, currently living in New York City. I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelors degree in Music Composition in May 2020, and I am currently pursuing a Masters in Composition at New York University. I have been playing piano for about 9 years now. In the past I've performed as a classical pianist and I've played in jazz groups. I have also worked as an accompanist and church pianist. Now I mostly perform my own compositions. I have been teaching students for years now. Music has been my passion since I was a child, and I'm super enthusiastic about sharing my love of music with others!
